If you own a flat or a leasehold property you may be entitled to purchase the freehold alone or together with your neighbouring flatowners. Alternatively, you may be entitled to extend the term of your lease by up to 90 years.

Leasehold enfranchisement is one of our main areas of expertise. We’re on hand to advise on all matters relating to this kind of transaction, guiding you through the process from start to finish.

This is important if you have a relatively short number of years left on your lease, as it may otherwise be difficult to sell or obtain a mortgage on the property. Extending the lease can also add value to your property. If you have more than 80 years left to your lease you will pay considerably less for your renewal than when the remainder of the term of your lease is less than 80 years.

We’ll help you navigate complex legislation and provide clear, practical advice on the following:

  • extension of an individual lease
  • collective enfranchisement (purchase of the freehold) by the tenants of a block of flats
  • purchase of the freehold of a leasehold house
  • collective right to manage the property by the tenants
